Monsanto’s Roundup Carcinogenic

There’s a dangerous chemical in many homes right now.  That’s right, the primary ingredient in the popular over-the-counter weed killer, Roundup, can have severe impacts on human health. Glyphosate, when combined with other chemicals found in the product, has been linked to cancer after coming in contact with skin, airways, or eyes.  Children and pregnant women are at particular risk. And consider this: when this product is used on commercial or backyard food crops, the potential contamination enters millions of households through foods.  If you are concerned that exposure to Roundup has resulted in serious health problems to your family, legal action may be your best bet.

Immediate Symptoms of Monsanto

Direct exposure to the toxins in Roundup, or its industrial counterpart, Roundup Ready, can be quick and severe. Immediate symptoms may include:

  • Increased salivation;
  • Nausea;
  • Vomiting; and
  • Diarrhea.

Exposure over a lengthy period of time has been linked to non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Worrisome Research about Monsanto

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the active ingredient in this weed killer is classified as probably carcinogenic to humans.  Animal studies and human exposures to the chemical make it clear that the concerns about this product are serious.  And Monsanto, the company behind the weed-killer, allegedly knew the risks before putting it on the market.

Monsanto Shrugs Responsibility

Despite Monsanto’s denials, evidence indicates executives have known about the carcinogenic capacities of its product for some time.  It seems the company manipulated data that their own researchers produced, attempting to minimize the catastrophic health impacts. Their efforts to bury their own researchers’ conclusions go as far back as the 1980s.  Beyond that, they paid people to post comments about the wonders of their product online, and lobbied Congress to the tune of $60 million.

Food Exposure from Monsanto

Americans may be unwittingly exposing their families to dangerous chemicals at their kitchen tables every day.  Testing indicates that show alarming levels of poisons are present in many products that are in homes across the country, including:

  • Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes, Raisin Bran, and Corn Flakes;
  • Lay’s Original and Kettle Cooked chips;
  • Nabisco’s Oreos and Double Stuffed;
  • General Mills’ Honey Nut and regular Cheerios;
  • Ritz Crackers;
  • Stacy’s Simply Naked Pita Chips; and
  • Whole Foods 365 Organic Golden Round Crackers.

Monsanto Negligence and More

If it’s true that Monsanto knowingly exposed Americans to deadly toxins—and the evidence of this is building—that means that not only farm workers and backyard gardeners have been needlessly exposed to hazardous materials.  It means millions of Americans have potentially eaten foods that were contaminated with dangerous levels of toxins that could ultimately lead to serious health issues.
